November 5, 1984 A Day in My Personal History!

Note:  This originally appeared January 29, 2012.  Almost a year has gone by since the post and I suddenly realized as I was looking back on my Blogs, I did not wish Sam a Happy 28 years meeting you Anniversary, Sam.  Enjoy each day with your loved ones, family, friends, significant others, and pets.  Time truly does go by in an eye blink, so do not wait!

Dates, we are all aware of their significance; birthdays, anniversaires, births, deaths and too many to list having some part of our existence and who we were, are now and hope to become at some point in time. We balk at those close to us who may forget a birthday, anniversary or some other memorable occasion (important to us of course), but what do these dates signify other than appearing on a calendar or datebook. Most of our lives are dictated by work, responsibilities at home (married, single or otherwise engaged) and don't forget, our deepening immersion into the mobile arena, dates have become a reminder on a favorite social media site, an entry into one of the many electronic devices we covet and shudder the thought, to some, a hand written entry on a calendar or datebook. Where am I going with all this focus on dates, and how we record them, another of my boring, "who cares", topics, however for me when I looked at the date November 5, 2011 it looked familiar, but why and for what life changing event.
Wedding: The Astral Plane June 9, 1991

It was suddenly a "doh" moment for lack of a better comparison, the date I first met Sam Bushman who became my friend, lover and then, husband! Sam was Philadelphia's most eligible Batchelor whose favorite hour was the "Cocktail Hour", a man after my own heart. I knew this was the real deal.  He called me the oldest "teenager in America".  He always let me kick up my heels and do mean that literally.

People come into our lives for all kinds of reasons so it best to enjoy, and make the most of it while there is time.

Oh, the restaurant where we were married, The Astral Plane I helped open in 1973.  Sam later did publicity for a variety of events at the "Plane" as we would refer.

Happy 27 years meeting you, Anniversary, Sam!

Sam Bushman Person Extraordinaire

1914-2005
Sam Bushman wasn't just the best Press Agent in Philadelphia, he was the only one left who was from the "old school so to speak" . He went to see his clients in person and kept up communication with them all the time. What celebrity was in their establishment; who was going out with whom and were they seen; or how about all the breaking stories he would know about, long before anyone else. Sam was definitely not CNN. Sam was the Google™ of Publicity. There wasn't anything he did not know about, and one of his famous lines was "I read the book". The Media called daily for information, newspapers, television and radio. When information was needed about some location no longer in existence, Sam would be able to give them the complete history along with any tidbits unknown to the public.

He taught me more about life and how to live, than anyone else I have ever known. He was always available when you were pissed off at someone and wanted to vent; just as he was there to share all the good times and triumphs.

A true friend to all and a mentor to many, his memory lives on through present day technology. A great tribute to a well loved and respected human being.

Visit his Blog www.sambushman.org and learn about the entertainment scene in Philadelphia from the 1930's to almost present day. A rare treat of treasures and stories to be told.

Are You Part of the Crowd?

Crowd sourcing is taking root, growing rapidly, and showing up in some of the most unlikely places, but at the same time, gives everyone involved an opportunity to network on a large scale making "two heads are better than one," not an outdated concept. Everything old is new again and the more things change, the more they stay the same. About now you must be thinking, boring, unoriginal, but most of all, what does this remotely have to do with anything at all, especially social media! My point exactly, and could tell you seven ways to engage, but to me seven ways............. has a whole other meaning. You fill in the blanks. I digress of course, and often. However, chaos is cool, living on the edge has new meaning and the "message is the medium" these days. Again, who cares, the nomenclature (see, big word) of whatever we are calling the "now generation" who seem to exist en mass, on, in and around social media. You must admit, deep inside all of us is the hope something we were first at, goes viral. Try it on for size sometime, as you have nothing to lose. Don't be shy, test the social media waters. One word of caution, do your homework and get all the information you need to back up your hopefully, claim to fame. After deciding I needed a new logo, and repeatedly seeing advertisements for 99Designs©, I decided to take a look at what they were offering and why everyone, at least some of the crowd, were using this wildly popular design alternative. Of course, being the curious sort, I took a trip to look around and decided this might be the place for me for a new logo design. Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner. Listed below is my selection of my new logo. If you go here you can view my contest. No doubt, it was the experience of a lifetime, however, some advise; communicate, communicate, communicate. This definitely can be filed under the "chaos is cool", category. A lot of work, you bet, in the sense if you want a fab design, you need to keep in touch with designers entering the contest. 99designs© has a great team to match its creed and concepts. They have received the attention of major media outlets, as well as entrepreneurs worldwide. I do not expect them to go away anytime soon, and most likely, trendsetters. So here we are again, back at the beginning of our adventure and "two heads are better than one," again the true, yet overused expression, but how could I go wrong with 959 design entries! You be the Judge.................

The In Crowd Redux

Are You Part of the Crowd?

Author's Note:  This post originally appeared October 11,2011; some 8 months ago and the decision to use 99Designs and crowd sourcing has been one of the best decisions and am lookling forward to another project under my ExtraRed Enterprises Umbrella.
